I am my Brother's Keeper..

"We are made up of men who have a desire to help make the communities in which we live better places for everyone. Our patch is earned through demonstrated involvement in our functions and adherence to our code of conduct for members. We don't care what you ride just as long as you can ride it. We hold mandatory monthly meetings and an annual Patch Ride. We sponsor benefit rides for fallen bikers and their family's as well local civic and non-profit organizations.

Anyone interested in our association is encouraged to contact us, find out exactly what we're all about and give us the opportunity to get to know you as well. If there mutual interest you can join us on a few rides or pitch in during an event. Memberships invitations are extended...we're not a HOG chapter where folks just sign up and buy a patch.

Marshall Pope Memorial Ride

By: Chromedoll

On November 29th, 2008, the Ol' Timers Motorcycle Association held a memorial ride in honor of Marshall Pope. You know that people have huge hearts when they come out to support the cause regardless of the elements.

That day the weather was, well, can we say worse than bad? It was a mere 40° and raining all day. Still, thirty-seven bikers suited up in many layers and rode in honor of Marshall.

The ride initially was supposed to leave Veterans Cycles Inc. in Dunn, NC to Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, which would have been 100 miles round trip, a nice ride on a sunny warm day. However, due to the cold, rainy weather they rode from Veterans to Newton Grove, approximately 40 miles round trip. All in all it was still a good ride. Some bikers actually said they saw sleet! Talk about some brave souls!

While the riders were out, the band "First Time Around" out of Middlesex, NC got set up in a trailer to prive some good tunes when all returned and volunteers were busy selling BBQ plates, raffle tickets, 50/50, and taking bids on the silent auction.

Plates that were supplied by White Swan BBQ were sold as take out and the guys cooked a pig for the riders. Great job, as I know the food was good and the wam after such a "cold" ride.

Congrats to all the winners! The 50/50 was won by James Guy who returned the money. The Condor went to Phillip Williams, a helmet to Scott Klein, and a $100 Tattoo Certificate to Ashley Reardon who also returned it back to the benefit. Between plate sales, raffles, silent auction, and the riders, a little over $5000 was raised and given to Amanda Pope and her family.

This was the 1st of many benefits to be held at Veterans Cycles and considering how bad the weather was it was a HUGE success. Thanks to EVERYONE who either volunteered, donated, or just showed up in support. It meant the world to Amanda.
